Ten Sentences: On the Life of Robert Walser
presented by Great Small Works at the at 2024 Festival de Casteliers
March 8, 2024
Created in collaboration with Mark Sussman of Great Small Works, this toy theatre show is an exploration of the life and work of Swiss-German writer Robert Walser. Considered to be a “clairvoyant of the small,” Walser’s writing illuminates the beauty of everyday human experiences. Rambling through various eras of Walser’s life in Switzerland, Berlin and ultimately his final home at the Waldau sanitorium in Herisau, Switzerland, Ten Sentences meditates on Walser’s writing through postcards and other paper ephemera, immortalized in rear projection, cranky scenes, and toy theatre puppetry.
